MORRIS THE MOUSE – for Reception and KS1
A rhyme and rhythm workshop for KS1 and Reception
A fun, active poetry workshop for Key Stage 1 pupils designed to support children’s learning and development in speaking and listening skills, and in identifying and responding to sound patterns in language.
“Fun and engaging! With an age-appropriate focus on sounds and rhyming, Morris the Mouse has a real relevance for young children learning phonics. The children thoroughly enjoyed the active session which included some memorable action poetry and created some fantastic spin-off learning opportunities back in the classroom.”
– Reception Class Teacher, Bramhope Primary School, Leeds

A storytelling workshop to spark the imagination
An exciting writing and performance workshop designed to engage large groups
Working with 2 classes at a time (or up to 80 pupils) in either half or full day sessions, Slam Poetry Day builds pupils’ confidence and makes literacy exciting and engaging, honing myriad creative writing skills in the process.
“The day was excellent. Andy had the ability to reach the children’s level instantly. He kept their interest for the whole day, combining a casual approach with efficient teaching skills. 10 out of 10.”
– John Humphries, Holliers Walk Primary, Hinkley
Poetry Slam days, inter-schools bootcamps, showcase competitions!
Poetry Slam can be extended as part of Poetry Factor. Working with other schools, the project comprises an initial Poetry Slam Day in every school, a further bootcamp day for two teams form each school, and a final showcase event, with professional judges and an enraptured audience of parents, friends and teachers – an X Factor for poetry!
“It was brilliant! The children were engaged all day – quite a feat! The day was well-structured and involved all children regardless of their ability. They all thoroughly enjoyed it! They all wanted to enter the competition.”
– Mrs Branes, Horsforth St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Leeds
